Learn why it’s better not to cool after a PRP treatment – such as with Vampire Facelift or autologous blood therapy on the face. PRP tips from our practice in Vienna.
PRP therapy – also known as Vampire Facelift or autologous blood treatment – is a gentle method to promote skin regeneration naturally. In our practice in Vienna, we use PRP specifically to activate the body’s own healing processes, especially for skin rejuvenation, fine wrinkles, or decreasing elasticity.
But many patients ask after the treatment: Is cooling after PRP useful – or is it even counterproductive?
Why cooling after PRP is not necessarily recommended
Even if it initially seems logical to cool a reddened or tense area of skin – after a PRP treatment, one should consciously refrain from doing so. The reason lies in the therapy’s mode of action: The injected platelet-rich plasma contains a variety of growth factors that trigger a desired reaction in the tissue. This is central to the regenerative effect, for example in Vampire Facelift on the face or in treating the eye area.
Cold inhibits this reaction by reducing blood flow and slowing cell activity – thus, the desired effect of the PRP facial treatment can be significantly weakened.
What is important instead after the PRP treatment
After a PRP treatment, the skin should and must heal in peace. Slight redness, a feeling of tightness, or small hematomas are not unusual – on the contrary: they show that the body’s own repair mechanisms are active. In our aesthetic medicine practice in Vienna, we give our patients the following recommendations:
- do not irritate the treated areas for 24-48 hours,
- avoid strong heat or cold (e.g., sauna, ice, direct sun),
- do not use decongestant cooling packs
- use gentle, non-irritating care products - you will receive more detailed information during the treatment.
- and avoid makeup for 1-2 days.

Conclusion
As tempting as it may be to try a new miracle cream or book a spontaneous beauty treatment just before the big day: Please resist the impulse. Our skin loves consistency – and reacts sensitively to unfamiliar ingredients or intense stimuli. What has worked for others might cause redness, dryness, or even irritation for you – precisely when everything should be perfect.
Therefore, the rule is: no experiments at the last minute. Instead, trust in early planned, medically supervised treatments that are tailored to your individual needs. This way, your glow remains natural, your skin stays balanced – and you can look forward to the big moment with serenity and anticipation.
